jerseyjn
Hello I’m looking for someone to help me with a very simple problem. I’m trying to help my mother with her 2020 Legacy. She lifted the hood of the car to charge the battery, and lowered the prop rod to keep the hood safely lifted. Now she is trying to lower the hood, but can’t find the clip that secures the prop rod to the hood, so the rod is hanging. I can’t help her directly, since she is in Michigan; I’m in New Jersey. Normally, I’d have an easy solution (quick visit to local Subaru dealer to look at it myself), but with Coronavirus, I can’t do this. If someone who owns a recent model Legacy could lift the hood to photograph the prop rod and how the free end is secured to the hood, I’d appreciate it. Please email me the photos at JERSEYJN@yahoo.com. I’ll take it from there and teach Mom remotely. Thanks in advance Jim
lmdew
Owners manual should have a picture she can look at.
jerseyjn
Thanks for the reply. The owner's manual has a rough drawing, but not detailed enough for my 88 year old mother to follow. I could really use a good photo (or 2 or 3) that show the position of the clip and how the hood prop rod is held by the clip. I'll add arrows to it and send on to her. brus brother
Did you say the prop is dangling from the hood?? Unless things have changed drastically, the hood prop is pivoted at the front left and swings up to hooks into the hood. When not in use, itm lays flat and there is a clip just behind the hood latch dead center that the prop slips into (front to back) for storage. jerseyjn
Thanks for the reply and the photo. I believe they have changed the design since your car, as the prop rod pivot is now based in the hood. I don't know when the change occurred. Mom's car is a 2020 Legacy. Rampage
Made a guess on the sub model and engine. You can start over on that page with the correct vehicle info. How about this. On the image upper right corner, click full sized image. https://www.subarupartwholesale.com/a/Subaru_2020_Legacy-25L-CVT-4WD-Premium-Sedan/78742741__7628338/FRONT-HOOD--FRONT-HOOD-LOCK-FRONT-HOOD--HOOD-LOCK/B16-550-01.html#57251 The rod appears to hinge on the rear of the rod and hooks at the front.
