Ub3rnoob
Im trying to see what codes my 97 Legacy is putting out without an obd scanner, people online are saying there's two sets of connectors under the steering wheel used for diagnostics, one pair black and the other green, I can only seem to find the green connector, any ideas? heartless
those connectors are pre-OBDII take the car to your local chain parts store - advance, o'riellys, whatever you have nearby and ask them to read the codes for you. Most will do it for free. They will not clear the codes, but can give you the existing codes present on the car so you know what needs addressing. basic OBD code readers are fairly cheap anymore - might be a good idea to pick one up. this one is cheap, and will do basic read & clear functions: https://actron.com/content/obd-ii-pocketscan-0 Edited January 1, 2021 by heartless

1 Lucky Texan
if your car has those connectors, thr green ones may be useful to cycle fans/relays under some uncommon conditions. But, for just scanning codes and clearing codes, etc., if you own a smartphone, an app like Piston or Torque, with a cheap-ish ELM327BT adapter, is a good way to read scan the ECU.
