Sasse Posted January 2, 2021 Share Posted January 2, 2021 Hi all, I retired early and bought an 82 Brat GL as a winter restoration project to keep busy. Some rust will have to be cut and patched, but it'll be a good reason to practice welding. I had a Gen 1 Brat in College. that Aaron's in Seattle had put an 1.8L and 5 speed dual range in. I also had a couple 80's Subaru wagons. While going through this motor to find out what was what - I found one of the cylinder heads had been heli-coiled. During removal of the spark plug things went badly. I tried a Big-Sert oversized to repair, but the damage is too bad. So, I pulled the motor and am now looking for solutions. Ultimately, I suspect finding another head, or putting a rebuild in will be easiest. If anyone near Billings, MT has either: a right side EA81 cylinder head in decent shape; or an entire EA81engine in good/great shape, please PM me. I'm also interested in any leads on body interior parts reasonably close to Billings.... Not much of an ask, right...
