spideyz
Just got the 87 brat painted:D and need to glue the subaru emblems back on. The side fender ones and the tailgate ones. What adhesive should I use? Also, now that the paint looks good, my black trim and bumpers look crappy. They are actually more gray than black. I'd like to blacken them up, what should I use. Once I get it all spiffy, I'll have to post some pics. Thanks. Keith
Scoobywagon
Just got the 87 brat painted:D and need to glue the subaru emblems back on. The side fender ones and the tailgate ones. What adhesive should I use? Well, if you want them to NEVER come off, you could use black urethane. Same stuff you mount a windshield with. I've had good luck with 3M's line of spray adhesives over the years, too. I'm currently experimenting with something that is new (to me anyway), called Gorilla Glue. Supposed to be the toughest glue in the world. I've been glueing metals and cermics together, but no plastic yet. Also, now that the paint looks good, my black trim and bumpers look crappy. They are actually more gray than black. I'd like to blacken them up, what should I use. Have you tried using Armor All or an equivalent to clean it up? If that doesn't work, I think I saw something at my local auto parts store (Westbay, for those of you out my way) called "Bumper Black". I can't remember but I think it was from plastikote or someone with an equally reprehensible spell checker. Just kinda spotted it out of the corner of my eye while I was trying to find a reasonably sized can of moly grease. Speaking of moly grease....doesn't get mch blacker than that....hmmmmm..... MorganM
I just used 2 products to put some OEM badges back onto my fenders and rear. One was by Permatex and it was called Trim Glue or Trim Adhessive. It was a small seringe with a bottle of stuff in the area with all the other Peramtex sealants and glues. Worked great for the little Subaru GL badges. Then I used some 3M double sided foam adhessive from Wal-mart on the bulky 4WD badges. That worked OK but the surfaces need to be very clean. One 4WD emblem fell off cuz there was a bunch of old adhessive and dirt on the back of the badge. Other one is holding strong
the sucker king
3m part no. 051135 "plastic and emblem adhesive" also has #08061 on it. works great and this is exactly what it is meant for. i should add that i got it at car quest.
Dr. RX
I use the same stuff that they use to glue in windshields. I wouldn't use Gorilla glue, it foams up and expands, great for wood that is clamped together and will be resurfaced after glueing, but not much else. Adam N.D.J.
I used a 3M double sided tape that was designed for emblyms and badges, had no problems with the stuff either. Used it on the tailgate badges, and they are still holding on 6 years later. The ones that I pulled off for painting, where holy hell to get off too. Can't remember the name of it, just that it was a 3M product, good stuff. As for the bumpers and stuff, Bumper Black is the way to go, I've used it on my 84 and 89's bumpers, and they looks awsome. Brand new! Did the 84's over a year ago, and it still looks just as good, and it's been sitting in the sun for the last 6 months, (awaiting and engine). The stuff I use is made by Duplicolor and is called Bumper Coating. Also good stuff.

Adam N.D.J.
Sure is. Worked just as well on the bumper of the 89 as it did on the moulding (sp?) that runs down the side of it.
