gduerson
I have a 2010 Subaru legacy. Recently I’m noticing a mouse squeak when my gears change it’s not every time but it’s becoming more frequent. It seems that it does not make the squeak when I shift manually the gears. My question is is my transmission going out or is this some sort of belt issue. It sounds like a belt would make a noise like what I’m hearing. Any help appreciated
1 Lucky Texan
how old is the belt, how's it look, etc.
el_freddo
I’m guessing it’s an auto. Could be a loose exhaust hanger bolt, broken engine or gearbox mount or a heat shroud that’s rubbing on something it shouldn’t be. Keep an ear out for it developing further and see if you can get a general location that it seems to be coming from Cheers Bennie

gduerson
First off. Thanks for advice. I do appreciate it. I’m a novice but the belts do seem to be fine. I’ll keep an ear on it and let folks know if I have any new information. Curious if it was the belt I’m hearing about a belt conditioner product? Would that be worth a try? el_freddo
Just put a bit of soapy water on the belts to make them quiet, or just rub a bar of soap on the belts, it’ll work it’s way around so don’t be stressed about having too much or not enough, can always add more if needed.
