DerFahrer Posted July 14, 2004 Share Posted July 14, 2004 Depends on what interval you're changing them. If you're at 60k (doubtful )then you can probably get away with just the belts themselves. At 120k, I would recommend doing all the front oil seals (crank, cams, oil pump seals) and check the idler/tensioner pulleys to be sure they spin freely. Couldn't hurt to do an H2O pump either. Partsman Posted July 14, 2004 Share Posted July 14, 2004 If you've got the irritating lifter tick, would be a good time to reseal the oil pump. Miles' site has info on the repair. There are 2 o-rings and one seal to replace. Beck-Arnley makes a kit with all 3 in it - part# 039-6320. Available at NAPA and several other parts stores. Incidentally, if you don't need the timing belt cover seals that come with the NAPA JV-1028 timing cover set, you can buy a JV-1030 (new number) cam seal set which contains the 2 cam seals, 2 large o-rings, and 2 small o-rings (which don't come in the JV-1028 - don't know where they go - maybe for replacing the entire camshafts?) Then, just buy the Napa oil seal (CR) front crankshaft (timing cover) seal and you have it all (sans cover seals) for much less $! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

After you have the belts off, it takes about ten minutes to pull the pump off, replace the seal, and bolt it back up. Considering that the oil pump seal costs ~5 bucks, its a no brainer. Otherwise you will be swearing when you have to tear the belts off to get to it again. Changing the water pump can be a good idea as they are relatively cheap (around 30 bucks) and once again will save you from having to tear into there again.
