Clarktar
Trying to find a replacement trans. Does anyone know if the transmission from a 1988 gl (dual range, AWD) will work in a 1988 gl (dual range FWD)? My assumption is no. THanks
DaveT
I'm not sure about the AWD. The FWD and 4WD can be swapped. And also over a range of years.
Clarktar
Gotcha. What a pain in the rump roast trying to find one with a reasonably "low" amount of miles....
moosens
Just guessing you mean 4WD and not FWD in the original post. If using an AWD from say a turbo RX or turbo it may be 3.70 and not 3.
DaveT
At this age, finding one is a hill. All of mine are the 3AT 3 speed auto 4WD. all around 150K - 200K miles. None have had serious massive failures, except the one that was run with no differential oil for too long because of an unknown slow leak... Even that one, the transmission parts are still good. Some of the guys that are running the manuals or AWD might know how many miles they should be good for.
el_freddo
If you find an EA82 AWD gearbox it will bolt in the same as any of the EA82 4wd gearboxes. Grab the solenoids off the LHS strut tower for the locked centre diff actuation. In these the front and rear diff ratios MUST be a match or you’ll stuff the centre diff - and this item is harder to find than one of these AWD gearboxes! newmexguy
I have an '89 parts wagon. 4WD. It has the five speed in it. Engine is already out. Willing to ship this, if you set it up.
