Rsf
I recently acquired an old what they call here beater with a heater. But to me it needs to brought back to life. I purchased an 1983 Subaru gl wagon 4wd. It’s a blast to drive even with all the repairs needed. It has been stripped down in the engine bay and is very old school basic. Looking for tips and tricks to make it a smooth runner. Thank you for your time.
moosens
All about finding and acquiring parts. Smoother ? Hmmm , these kind of are what they are to me. You have the dual range four speed ? I can’t recall when the automatic 4WD stared but I think the same era. How’s the third gear synchro ? Those are usually first to show. Automatics of that era get the hydraulic lifters should you ever find one in a yard. Vented rotors also come into play around then. Again , should you come across parts cars. More current owners are here and sadly on face booo too. Best of luck with it and enjoy !

Rsf
Thanks for the welcome and info. My gl is a manual with the dual range 4wd. As long as I’ve been driving it lately the gears are pretty good for having almost 200k on the car. Of course I don’t have a list of parts replaced either. Big things I’ve been trying to figure is the heater control and how to get it to work again. They stripped all the vacuum stuff out except brake booster and distributor.
