211
I have a 2000 OBW with a JDM 2.0 engine transplant. I'm having a hard time finding HG's specific to the 2.0. Title says it all. Are the 2.5 SOHC non-turbo HG's compatible?
el_freddo
No. They will physically fit and bolt in but the firing ring in the head gasket will be in the ring spot and could cause issues. @GeneralDisorderwill know more about the complications of this. Why not get head gaskets for the EJ20 that you have? Cheers Bennie
1 Lucky Texan
GD has mentioned before that it is difficult to get 2.0 parts.

Numbchux
WRX 2.0 head gasket should work just fine. Everything else is the same as SOHC 2.5. Very easy to get parts with that little bit of information.
211
Holding up an EJ25 gasket to the block of a EJ20, the bore on the 2.0 is much smaller. We thought about EJ20 turbo HG's but those are thicker and would likely change the timing a little bit. I'll look into the WRX 2.0 gaskets thanks Edited September 21, 2022 by
el_freddo
The thickness of the head gaskets needs to be quite significant to really effect the cam timing so much that you’ll experience a difference or lose power etc. What I could effect is the compression ratio, but again, this would t be noticeable nor effect the ECU’s engine management. There are plenty of places to buy EJ20 gaskets. Australia has a big market of EJ20 engines and thus the HGs are readily available. Postage is the real issue here. There will be other places across the globe that would be easier to source. As numbchux said, the EJ20 turbo gaskets will do the job just fine. Numbchux
I know STi turbo head gaskets are used on the SOHC 2.5 all the time, I would think WRX would be the same. Timing change would be negligible, compression might be noticeable.
Numbchux
http://opposedforces.com/parts/info/11044AA483/ https://www.ebay.com/itm/192453951693 both list SOHC non turbo and turbo 2.0 applications. That's what I would use. USDM source, lists WRX EJ205 https://www.subarupartsdeal.com/parts/subaru-gasket-cylinder-head~11044aa483.html

The ones numbchux pointed out are the thin MLS ones that should work. When in doubt, measure the old gaskets.
