Daskuppler
Hello Everyone, The 2014 Forestyer 2.5 Preimum is under the microscope again....This time, the key periodically will not turn from ACC to Off, it locks at ACC (everything that that should be on stays on). Google research leads me towards the car doesn't recognize it is in park. Every time the key gets stuck, the gear indicator in the dash between speedometer and tachometer and always shows P. and the car is indeed in park (it rolls back onto the parking dent if e brake is not engaged. I have tried shifting gears and back to park and it doesn't help. I have tried starting the car and turning it off again. No one thing works consistently, but eventually the key does turn to off and comes out. Any ideas on where to look from here? This is the same car with the CVT that managed to redline and bounce off the rev limiter while in Drive
lmdew
Update 12/24/2021: Subaru extended warranties on 2012-2018 models to cover this part at least until 10-31-22. • 2022 Update. Key ... This "fix" bypasses the park-range switch that often fails in 2015-2018 or 19 Outbacks. My wife's Outback has not had a key stuck since I put in the jumper wire and no dash lights have come on (the key was getting stuck regularly). The only risk may be that you can now remove the key with the car in drive, neutral, etc. If you can't live with that risk, then you better replace the switch per Subaru service bulletin # 16-112-18R (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/201.... This same method may be able to be applied to other Subaru models. Many modern Subarus use a similar wiring harness and wiring color scheme within the shifter console. If you want to try it on your own car, do so at your own risk. Also, remember to make a video so we can all benefit from your effort. somick
Check out with the dealer. It might be covered by the TSB. My grandson's 2017 was. Good luck, Sam
Daskuppler
If Subaru won't replace it for free, how hard is this to replace? The quick fix looks.like it's maybe 20. Minutes, but how hard is the actual sensor to get out and put in?
Steptoe's photos
would you want to continue the chance that the issue might happen again, if you replaced the sensor?

I also don't want a half assed car with a bunch of bandaids holding it together. That's a great temporary solution but not a fix.

What I don't want is an immediate need for a change of underwear halfway through an overtake ...... I have some "good second hand " ones to try first
Daskuppler
Subaru ended up covering the cost of parts. Labor is on me, but I work pretty cheap these days 🤣
