Westy Gen2
Howdy from down under all:) from Auckland,New Zealand. First post here, after spending months reading likely 80% of the posts dealing with Gen2 ea81 hitachi wagons. Basic clean up and refresh using a rebuild kit,but didn’t pull apart lower section or shafts, and before GD says dump it,my challenge is to try to achieve decent running ,stock, before despair sends me to Weber. Got it dialled in nicely, but was noticing fuel smell 20 mins after shutdown, and fuel bowl level dropped to top of where the accelerator valve sits. No cracks, and dry under the bowl,so took off air cleaner and primed the accelerator pump and that fuel started to drip below coming out onto the throttle shaft.. There’s two things here, probably related ,from my reading here there are no seals on these, merely bushes and if it’s worn enough to allow air in and fuel out ,is this carb had it? Where is that fuel disappearing to in a static fuel bowl over time?presume it’s leaking out the accel valve so replaced the gasket under the valve and still disappearing? Thoughts suggestions greatly appreciated .Cheers Westy
moosens
My thought was contemporary gasoline and accelerator pump seals not liking each other. Seen the rubber boot erode faster than I think the tank of fuel was used up. And that was after using one from a carb. kit. I guess if it were my cake to bake I’d break it down and soak the body and float chamber. Blow out the jets and passages. Double check that float and the needle. Not sure how much experience you have on these but you may have to remove the float chamber top a few times to get the adjustment correct. Lots of voodoo and witchcraft too. Good luck. Post back with results.
