Help!! Subaru won't move cont...... Woman driver!!!

My 1988 Subaru Justy quit moving. It can't be pushed or anything. I jacked it up to see if the axel turned. It did not move on either side...however, I was able to freely turn the passenger side tire, and the axel did move. Absolutely NOTHING moving on the drivers side. What could be the problem...broken axel on the drivers side...bad boot....????? HELP!!

it could be a few things....Check your axle joints to see if they have grenaded. If you just have a bad boot, it usually isn't a bad thing unless you have half your axle in your hand. Another thing is it could be the wheel bearing. It could have siezed up or something along those lines. Or it could be a brake issue. You might have sucked a brake pad up and it got lodged to the point where it will not move. Just a few things to check:D

I read your post a couple of times and am a bit confused on your discription of the problem but, I'm gonna give it a shot! You say the car quit moving and can't be pushed (I am taking for granted that the car was in neutral-not in gear when you tried to push it) You mention that you jacked it up to see if the axles turned, try this trick...(With the wheels off the ground and engine running get a buddy to shift the car into first gear and let out the clutch. Then look to see if either of the front wheels and axles are being driven by the engine through the transaxle.) Both axles should show some rotation during this test. If you find an axle turning but the wheel is not, suspect a stripped internal spline in the hub (This would cause car not to move but, you should be able to push it in neutral). If the wheel and axle assembly on the driver side is not turning (as you mentioned) and is locked (Wheel cannot be driven by engine through transaxle) but, at the same time you notice the passenger side wheel/axle assembly spins very quickly you may have a stuck brake caliper piston or a colapsed brake hose on the driver side. (This would cause the car not to move and you would not be able to push it in neutral) To check for the stuck brake issue, loosen the bleeder screw on the caliper and see if fluid squirts out under pressure...If so, you may have found your problem.(Note: make sure there is no pressure applied to the pedal when you open the bleeder) I have found in my experience with justys (I've been working on mine for 5 years now) that Justys are notorious for hub bearing failures and the internal splines on the hubs stripping out where they attach to the splines on the axle shaft. (This is the main reason they quit moving) Please keep me posted on what you find out with your justy
