davmar123
Hello everyone, this is my first post. I have a '96 Legacy wagon with 96,000 miles (2.2L). The check engine light came on about a week ago, took it to Auto Zone to read the fault code. Two stored codes ( Cyl. 2 misfire + Catylist Eff. below norm [O2 sensor] ). The fault codes were cleared and the Check Engine Light has not come back on. Could a faulty spark plug or elect. connection cause the misfire? I'm pretty sure a misfire would cause an O2 sensor fault. I'd rather not spend $100 for a new O2 sensor if a new set of spark plugs will do the trick. Any thoughts? Thanks. powderhound
I'd start with the spark plugs. My dad's 92 had a misfire and it was simply the #2 spark plug.
gbhrps
My 97 OBW had a similar problem, a Check Engine Light and a misfire code, but everything checked out fine. The dealer was given permission to change one component at a time to find the problem. First thing changed was the ignition coil and bingo! The problem was solved.
