classic54
Hello everyone I am wondering if you can tell me where the fuel pump on a 1985 loyale wagon is located .I would also like to know how much it should cost to replace .The wagon is a GL.This is my first subaru and I would like to do some preventive mainenance on it what parts tend to go bad first on these cars recently the car had to be towed because of a breakdown and a slim jim was used to open the drivers door now my key will not open that door from the outside what would possibly cause that and how can I fix it.The car has about 100,000 miles and after my breakdown the car had a carburetor replaced now it's running ok just want to know what I should look out for next. Thanks
Turbone
The FP should be under the car in front of the right rear tire. It sits on a little platform to help protect it from road debris. Theres alot of places you can get the FP, so prices will vary. I cant say how much because I have never had to buy one. The reason your key wont work is because when the slim jim unlocked the door it also removed the rod that controls the inside lever to the lock. Its easy to put back on, just remove the inside door panel/arm rest/inside door handle cover and slip it back in the clip. I would probably be most concerned about the timing belts. They must be replaced every 60,000mi, and by changing them you will have peace of mind knowing they are fresh belts. If they do break, it will not harm the engine. But it will leave you stranded untill replaced. Not a hard job to do and I think its in the on line repair manual. Welcome to the Board.
[HTi]Johnson
IF is has OHC (Overhead cams) you better replace the Timing belts, then keep replacing them every 60,000miles. Keep it oiled and watered religiously. The fuel pump, I believe is in front of the passenger rear tire, it's covered by a shrowd/guard. I believe that it has two fuel filters, one in the engine compartment and one right next to the fuel pump, those should be replaced too. Usually if your Sube gets a little sluggish, it's more than likely linked to the filters...and mainly the one in the back of the car(people sometimes don't know their car has two filters) That's all I can think of for preventive/keep your car nice maintenance. I'm sure others will correct any of my mistakes or add on to this post. Oh yeah, welcome to the USMB.
