photo2001
Hi everyone. I recently lost use of garage parking for my 2000 Forester. Since it's on the street now, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to get a locking gas cap. (Why don't they put interior releases for the gas fill door like my old Accord had?) Can anyone recommend a place to get a locking gas cap for my Subie? Does Subaru sell any? Thanks!
hohieu
Not sure if Subaru sells one, but you can find them at www.expressautoparts.com for $18, free shipping on orders over $50.
Soobadooba
Just for the record, I don't know when they were added (I thought they all had them), but our 2004 Forester has the interior release gas fill door. -Louis- '04 Forester XT 5spd '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
SevenSisters
I think it has to do with the trim level. The ’91 has an interior release. Easiest and cheapest way to get gas is to punch a hole in the tank and collect 5 gallons of it and run.
photo2001
When I purchased my 2000 Forester S, it was the highest trim level. They just didn't offer the remote opener that year unfortunately.

I have a locking one on my 2000 Forester. Make sure you get a STANT brand. I used a cheaper one (I forget the brand) and I was not pleased with how it worked after a while. Remove the one on the teather and put the screw back into the gas tank; that way you can't lose it should you decide not to use the locking one. You do not need a vented one; the plain one will be fine. Just be sure not to cross thread it. I did that once and it was a bitch getting off ! ~Howard
legacy2.5
i have seen plenty of vehicle's come in for service with a check engine light on ( for a small evap leak code ) because the wrong gas cap was on the vehicle. just nake sure you get a cap that fits your vehicles spec's.
