ManYaiK
YO, me and my bro went to Tuscon yesterday. On the way, my bro decided to see how fast my car would go(he was driving). He noticed that on inclines, floored in third, it would sometimes downshift to second resulting the engine to go over redline(7000-7200). Is this normal for Soob 3spd autos with over 180k on the ticker? Or does me have to do a tranny swap earlier then I thoght? Any feedback from y'all would be great! Thanks! PHATBRAT
That's called "kickdown" or "Passing gear" (Kickdown on a hill, Passing gear is for passing obviously) Sometimes, especially on hills, the trans is right on the line of 2nd or 3rd so it may "kick down" but most likely will go right back to third if it is in the redline. Nothing abnormal there. Not really good for a trans to be downshifting then upshifting back and forth like that especially with high rpm's but that's what they are made to do. Older Subaru transmissions suck *****.
