SOA says I should not...

Recommended Posts

Frankly, I don't think they would care even if they knew. It's not exactly their biggest concern - being it's a diagram for a 15 year old car that they aren't likely to make any real money serviceing anyway.

One of the parts guys at Lithia ran me off a copy of a couple pages from an 84 FSM just the other day. Didn't think anything of it, and neither did he....

You are the kind of parts guy I like Will.... I'll be throwing some business your way soon.

I doubt Subaru would go for that, but we could hand them out at functions on CD, and swap them via private FTP and such. The real difficulty of course is getting someone to scan them. Very length operation unless you have access to a scanner with a document feeder. Even then you have to unbind an FSM to do it. Doesn't destroy it of course, but it does mean it has to be in a three ring binder for the rest of it's life. I personally wouldn't mind doing it - I have a band-saw, but no document feeding scanner.....

shadow....my image looks pretty good....i know that Imissed the major stages of planning due to the equipment i had at the time...slow rump roast comp and no scanner/cam....

I could do myentire 86 FSM+CC supplement by images....what do you think?

We had a big project going to convert FSM's to searchable text PDF's, but I got deployed and it went nowhere.

Just to give everybody a little perspective, my FSM for the 90 Loyale (and I only have 3 of the 4 volumes) runs at least 500 pages. Given that new FSM sets from Subaru Publications can cost $100 or more, having the information online would be a significant breakthrough for many owners.

But searchable text (as Shadow suggests) would really help. Why? Because, in case no one else has noticed, the index (indices) in both Haynes and in the FSM are just awful. Word search would go a long way in accessing all the great info in these books (and would probably lead to better repairs because the searcher could review all references in the manual to the problem being taken care of).

If you are talking about Subaru's "TechInfo" subscription site (which isn't a secret), that's where I got several of the Subaru FSM PDF files I have currently. Unfortunately, they don't have any of the 80s Subarus on there yet.

thats the useless diagram =], my chiltons has that one. find the ones with the colors, and all that, for all the different years, and stick it up on the web somewhere. witout factory service manuals, i had to email around for weeks getting one that was close to the one i needed.
