lmdew
The trans chart I have did not find the TZ1A2ZJEAA, what did it come out of? Quick google search found this: 31000AD830 Genuine Subaru Trans AY/TZ1A2ZJEAA - Subaru … This part fits 1999-2001 Subaru Impreza, 1999 Subaru Legacy, 1999 Subaru Outback. Affordable, reliable and built to last, Subaru part # 31000AD830 Trans AY/TZ1A2ZJEAA stands out as the smart option. SubaruPartsDeal.com
sirtokesalot
i used info from here https://legacypic.uk/transmission/ i also asked about it on a facebook group and it seems like this transmission is not compatible with the 98 outback. lmdew
If the old one does not have the external spin-on filter but the new one does, correct it will not work.
sirtokesalot
i do not have a trans code for this one but maby might be known without. would a 97 impreza trans work in the 98 outback? i found a 97 impreza trans with 120,000 on it but the seller did not post the trans code with it. i did messege and ask for a picture of the code but havent heard from him yet and am just wondering if its needed. wtdash
Hey...'98 OB Automatic/4EAT had the 4.44 FDR/Final drive. Only the '96-'98 Auto EJ25D cars will match up directly - Legacy OB/GT/LSi/SUS, '98 Forester and Impreza RS. '90-'98 EJ22 (and maybe EJ18) cars will work, but you'll need the matching rear diff (3.9 and 4.11 were mixed in) and the flex plate for the TC. sirtokesalot
here is the code for the possible replacement transmission. i can get the rear diff with it as well would the trans function in a 1998 outback? also would i need the flex plate or would the one on the outback currently work? It can work if you make it work, we've already given you what you need to know to do it. Make sure the final drives match. Swap the rear diff to match, that donor trans is 4.11 and outback is 4.44. Get the flex plate if you can...it's been awhile but I think all the 90's flex plates interchange just fine, but I'd just get it, there's no reason not to. wtdash
Hey...I don't get notifications so didn's see your responese (Yes, I have them turned on). Flexplate must match the transmision's torque converter. The 2.2 was different than the 2.5, in my experience (IIRC the '91-'94 EJ22T turbo was different too, but that's a tangent.) Per 'Idosubaru' from 2013: "been a little while but flexplate stays with the trans - so typically - install EJ25 flexplate on EJ22engine going into EJ25 vehicle." So, The flexplate has to match the torque converter's 4 bolt holes alignment (the 8 center crank bolts are all the same on EJ engines - Auto and 5-speeds). Per another quote on here: "2.2l torque converter is smaller, so it uses a "deep dish" flexplate. 2.5l torque converter is bigger, so it uses a flatter flexplate. Put the 2.5l flexplate with a 2.2l converter and it will pull the converter back too far out of the trans. " Edited May 30 by wtdash
