1995 Subaru Legacy Wagon Huge Oil Leak from front

Recommended Posts

This car has an AT and about 220,000 miles on it. When I look under the front of the car it leaks from the front pretty much center of the engine. Revving the engine speeds up the leak dramatically. I haven't had time to examine it closely up on blocks yet. Leaks about a quart of oil in 20 miles or less. I don't see anything on top of the engine leaking, so probably from under the timing belt cover. Any suggestions on the likely culprit? Can I fix it without taking the engine out?

crank seal doesn't require engine removal. just follow steps for timing belt change. while you're down there consider pulleys, water pump, belt, etc. dealer only seals, japanese pulleys, aisen water pump, and mitsuboshi belt. good tbelt kits on ebay.

Had same problem with my 99 Outback years back. My crank seal went bad, creating a massive oil leak. Had seal replaced by a friend. He didn't charge much, so must be a fairly easy repair.
