Revs by its self when running hot

Recommended Posts

I have a 83 4wd gl wagon, i have a weber on it. With the hot weather we have had lately in washington, the cars has been running hotter. I noticed that when the temp gadge reads over 3/4 the car revs to 3000 rpms by its self. It seems to me that this is not helping the car cool down quicker, but i could be wrong. I am in the process of getting a new radiator and adding another electric fan for cooling. Im am wondering why the car is doing this, it also happened when i had the old hitachi on.

Thanks

David

im not too knowledgeable here, but this problem probably has happened before to others and unless the radiator is broken for sure then wait on replacing it. believe me, im having heat problems and i cant run my a/c without hitting the red on my temp gauge. im stuck having to rely on my window-rolling skills to get any air at all. unfortunately, we now have a heat warning - it has reached 120 in some areas down here. i think thats hotter than washington's ever gotten, so you'll live. rad's are expensive and being as tho it probably isnt whats wrong with the car i wouldnt buy it yet. im getting this info from this thread:

it has only one electrical fan and it seems to be running intermitingly. Which is another problem i have to address. I was really hoping that someone would have an idea what causes the idel to raise. Did these cars have coolent temp sensors, i didnt think so. I just can think of a way that the engine temp would affect the the throtle.

Thanks for the help

David
