Sweet82
I was driving home last night and I saw a small wagon with a Mitsubishi logo on the front hood. It appeared to be somewhat high off the ground for a small wagon. Is Mitsubishi trying to capture some of the Subaru Market with a small 4wd wagon? What did I see? Or was I hallucinating? Inquiring minds want to know... Glenn 82 Subaru 01 Forester
mattocs
Was it an Outlander or a Lancer Sportback?

Guest lothar34
The Outlander is the Forester wanna-be that Mitsubishi makes. It's a little weaker and only comes with a four-speed auto. I think they're supposed to have a turbo version in a couple years, if they can stay in business that long.
DerFahrer
And that's a big if... The most loaded Outlander with AWD actually has the worst 0-60 time of any car for sale in the country at a snail-pace 11.2 seconds
blitz
Here in the Detroit metro area I see a lot of folks driving what appears to be (to me anyway) other manufacturers interpretations of the Subaru, only bigger and heavier. Apparently the AWD sportwagon with ground clearance is suddenly hip to everyone.

cookie
has jumped on the bandwagon all right. Almost seems a shame becuse I don't think Subaru is getting the R and D money that some of the big guys get. Being part of GM may actually help here. I think Subaru is now lagging behind in electonic management systems and powertrain research. Some of the newly developed cars out there may have a generation's advance. How much has the transmission system changed from 10 years ago?
bushbasher
Yeah, subaru needs to make their 6 speed "tiptronic" style, with paddles on the steering column

applegump
Talking about transmission updates, what about engine updates? Are any 4 cyl with variable valve timing theses days?
ricochet
Talking about transmission updates, what about engine updates? Are any 4 cyl with variable valve timing theses days? Subaru already has VVT in it's motors. Ryan Douthit, Publisher SUBIESPORT Magazine http://www.subiesport.com
SevenSisters
In '91 there was no competition to Subaru. It was a no brainer to get a high quality AWD and ABS equiped vehicle at a reasonable price when only high end cars offered ABS and very few, AWD. Times have changed and with the poor quality and reliability ratings from Consumer's Reports, JD Powers and the like, as well as this board's experiences, competition will no doubt get more intense. I love my 'ru but am glad there are alternatives that may yield better reliability and value. I don't need a headgasket or other expensive repair in a new car. Subaru needs to redesign thier line and return to the days of high quality and cuttting edge inovation. I don't think all the blame can go to GM.
