98legacy2pt5gt
Does any one know how to fix the drain in the sunroof of a Legacy wagon sunroof? It's a 98 Legacy GT wagon. The driver side drain hole channels the water into the car apparently just below the dash. It seems that something is disconnected inside somewhere. The passenger seems to work fine. It channels the water to the ground just ahead of the jacking point.

There is a drain hole at the corner on both sides of the windshield right under the hood that gets clogged with leaf debris and then allows water to leak into air intake. Clear away debris and pass a straightened wire coat hanger down this tube and see if this isn't the culprit.

There are 2 holes at the front corners of the sunroof "opening". I can popur water from a glass into each and see the results. Passenger side drains to the ground. Driver side drains on the driver floor. NOT GOOD! I've plugged the drive side drain until I can get it fixed. But if the car is parked so that water moves to the driver side, it puddles and can overflow onto the driver seat. ALSO NOT GOOD! Does anyone know how this can be fixed? Tried to clear the drains today. Cleared the drain at the corner of the windshield on driver side with a coat hanger and it seemed to help with that drain. Also cleared the driver side sunroof drain. I think. This was more complicated. Had to use a light gauge electrician's fish wire with rounded-off end. Got about 4 ft of wire into the drain before hitting an obstacle near the kick panel area. This is approximately where the water runs out into the car at the top of the plastic kick panel. So I've cleared it as much as I can, but the leak persists. Where do I go from here? brus brother
Can you locate where it should drain out under the car (compare to the passenger side)? If you find the drain hole, thread the snake from the bottom up to where you perceived the blockage? I assume there was never any body damage to the car that could have kinked or broke the drain line. I guess the next step if you can't clear the blockage from the bottom or the top is to open the "kick panel" and find the damn leak. If the skylight drains out the same opening as the drains from under the windshield, there would have to be a T connection. Perhaps this connection has come undone. P.S.You might try using the thin copper ground wire that is paired with multi strand 12 gauge house wires as a reamer.
EOppegaard
How about compressed air? I have had success with clearing lots of debris from drain holes using nothign more than a compressor and an air hose!
98legacy2pt5gt
Think I have fixed the leak today. Thank you to all who responded! I am providing some info which may help others. Here is what the problem was. There is a rubber hose connecting the drain in the front corner of the sunroof "channel" to a metal tube which runs down the windshield pillar. It was disconnected from the drain. Now how could that happen? There should not be any way that it can, really. This was hard to find as the water was leaking in the area of the electronics at the driver footwell. In order to find it I had to repeatedly disassemble, pour water and check for leaks until I found the source. By the time I was done I had looked behind the fender liner, behind the electronics in the footwell, all along the windshield pillar and finally above the headliner near the drain. Great fun! There is another potential leaking problem which I came across. Behind the electronics in the footwell there is yet another rubber hose which connects to the metal tube in the windshield pillar and directs the water out of that cavity into one which drains to the outside (behind the jacking point). The hose is barely long enough to reach. I had to keep it place in it's hole with packing foam.

Aksor
I have the same problem with the sunroof leaking into the passenger footwell. Then I realized that the driver side is leaking too. This is on a 97 GT Wagon. I removed the Apillar plastic trim and sunvisors and it is evident that the plastic drain hose shrunk by at least 1" and both slipped off the spout of the sunroof drain. I tried pulling on the plastic hose but it will not give enough to reattach. Will have to visit Home Depot tonight to purchase plastic hose. Its pouring outside!!!!!!!!!
