Cougar Posted August 21, 2004 Share Posted August 21, 2004 Since those things are ok then you need to check the voltage to the field of the alternator (the small wire). You should have nearly the same voltage as the battery level. It could be your new alternator has prematurely failed also. If your field voltage is ok then you are going to need another alternator. edrach Posted August 21, 2004 Share Posted August 21, 2004 Two things that I have found cause pre-mature alternator failures until they are resolved: A bad battery, terminals or cabling. An open circuit(intermittant or not) will almost always kill an alternator when the engine is running.
