s'ko
So found a set of Pug wheels w/Lug nuts. I mounted the wheels and as I was tightening the lug nuts, the back part of one of them broke off. So now I have the rounded part of the lug nut in the bolt hole with some of the thread still in there. Anyone have any ideas on how to remove it? Thanks BW
Hocrest
I had this problem with a set of 15" pugs I found in the Junkyard. I got all three rims off, but couldn't rescue the last one. I ended up going back twice with my drill and a bit slightly larger than the threads. I went through the charge of two 14.4v batteries twice (hence the two seperate trips) but I was finally able to drill enough of the stud away that what was left of the lug nut fell off. At that point I was able to leave the half drilled stud to rust away in the yard with the rest of the donor Pug, but you would have to go ahead and replace the stud after you get done. I suppose a torch could help, but it was easier sneaking my PorterCable into the yard than it would have been to sneak a torch in there.
s'ko
I don't I explained myself well. I was able to rescue the pugs. Took them to a tire shop and mounted my old Impreza 205-6-R15 tires. They look nice and there is minimal fender gap. Had to bang the inner fender a bit and bend the fender well in the front to stop rubbing. They used a airgun to tighten the bolts on and while messing with the bolt I broke the nut in the above described fashion. Do you think that drilling the nut in half would work? Or do I run a risk of messing up the threads? Thanks for your input sorry for the bad explanation. BW
Hocrest
I think I understand what you're asking. The lug nut is broke in half. The part with the wrench flats is off, and the acorn is still threaded onto the stud?? If so, that is the same problem I had to get around. And you are going to have to replace the stud once you get it all apart. If not, I'm still not sure what you got there:confused:
JWX
you could take a pair of vise grips and try that?

Hocrest
here is what I got. Looks just like what I had, your going to have to drill out the stud.
Sweet82
Sko's gonna be doing some drillin! Can you get the drum/disk off? If you could it would make drilling easier. In fact you may be able to drill out the back of the stud and pop it through the front side? Good Luck Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
s'ko
ok I was really lucky I took a small drill bit and made a hole on the surface of the acorn. Took out a punch and hammer and was able to hammer the stuck nut off. Did not damage the stud. I was able to find a set of the one piece pug lugnuts so I am going to replace the two piece ones with those soon.
