82 BRAT w/pugs and 205/60/R15

Recommended Posts

So I found these at a PAP. Mounted some 205-60-r15s on them.

Put them on the BRAT and it handles really nice.

The only problem is I am having a bit of trouble accelerating and I think my gas mileage has dropped to 15-20 MPG.

Is this common?

when you say your gas mileage has dropped do you mean in town driving or highway driving because bigger wheels should give you better gas mileage on the highway you move a bigger tire but you move it less.

Correct Me If Im Wrong Please!

My mileage on my wagon is around 18 even with 28" tires (215/75R15's), on drilled chevy rims..... Your mileage should be at least a little better than that, but yes it will go down some.

In theory you are correct Vega - but in practice it never seems to work that way. The engine is working harder, and more often to drive those big tires. If the engine worked just as hard for any size, then yes - the mileage would go up. Think about it this way - would you rather roll a 13" tire down the street, or a 55" tractor tire? Which one would make you sweat more? See my point?
