subaru_styles
well on tuesday night got a ride over to eugene to pick up my car. got the rear axle replaced headed on my way. well just to add to my bad luck i was going 75-80 and noticed i had really low oil pressure. then came the lifter noise and....CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK:banghead: got my car towed and inspected the damage the next morning. i threw a rod and put a 7"x4" hole in my block!!! (i will post pics later tonight) there was big chunks of my block everywhere and I tore the pistons up to all hell so that put me in a nice delima with the show being this weekend. so last night randy and justin helped sooooo much by helping me to quickly yank my motor and strip it down to the short block. being an awesome guy that he is, Mike is letting us take the motor out of one of his wagons. this will gaurentee us a running block. i had to take grayhound back to bend this morning to work and will go back to finish up the car tonight. then drive back to bend and head up to HR tom. SO EVERYONE the rx wagon will be there but i doubt it will be all pretty and still be missing all the dash trim:)
Subarutex
Our luck seems to be just about the same. I'll see you at the show, luckily your RX will make it. Mine won't :-/
Snowman
OUCH!!!! From a rod-throwing veteran, I give my condolences to you and your car. Sounds like it'll work out OK though, so I guess I'll see you at the show.

Snowman
That's quite impressive. My piston had more damage, as it was broken away past where the oil ring resides, but your block damage extened a lot farther forward into the water passage area. Bill90Loyale
No oil pressure. No oil=blowed up.So the oil pump failed? Massive and sudden oil leak somewhere?
subyrally
No oil pressure. No oil=blowed up. same thing happened to my friend's wrx engine.didnt check to see if it had oil when he took it to the track. then he elt a freind drive it, the guy dogged it. now the re is a hole worn through the side of the piston that you can slide a penny through. MorganM
Wow nice work! Saw one in a junkyard that did the exact same thing. What a site to see. Funny part was the junkyard one was just a GL wagon; no turbo...
archemitis
were the oil lines to the turbo broken? or not sealing?
archemitis
that rod is snaked from boost or predetonation, from the looks of it. i bet you chucked a rod under boost:brow: then you lost oil pressure because of it. once the lower rod end lets loose, ALL of your ouil shoots out of that rods oil galley, and gives you no oil pressure. timing screwed, too much booost, not enough fuel? spanky_pete
Holy crap. The only time I've seen a worse looking blowout was when a friend ran his 350 Chev completely out of oil. One of the pistons came apart and lodged itself in the cylinder sidways. Sorry to hear it, glad it's going to work out ok.
PoorManzImpreza
oh man...the things these engines do after 200k then insane boost with no intercooler and crappy fuel and ignition management... Well, Styles your car still *looks* damn good Good luck
archemitis
why did he loose pressure? i wanna know what you guys think.
WJM
maybe he bearing spun and thats where the pressure was lost....thus blowing it up. Maybe the oil pump failed....maybe the fram filter on it failed....or other filter...maybe....i dont know!
GeneralDisorder
Well - it made it to the show on a trailer. They pushed it over to the sound competition after the show-n-shine. Good thing the fair-grounds is flat. Poor guy...GD
TheSubaruJunkie
He had it running at the show. I was there when he got it started, and also when he drove it off the trailer. The car is looking good. Still won 2 awards in its condition at the WCSS. -Brian
Subarutex
It is intercooled. I'm sure it was intercooled when it blew. I'm thinking the block was already bad. Remember, he got this out of a RX parts car. Even if he did reseal it (not sure if he did or not) if the block already has damage it will still fail when you start to flog your new turbo swap. It now has a good carb shortblock underneath the turbo heads. And its a 3.9 ratio. Its going to be quick. Oh, I did see it running to.
subaru_styles
the first block was out of a parts car. the oil pump and ALL seals were replaced and the boost was still at the factory setting and it was intercooled. my guess is that there was a problem with the block to start out with. <<<_______________>>>
