henrysteele77
does anyone have a clutch preferancefor a 85 ea82 4wd
GeneralDisorder
My personaly preference is something from the junk yard that has a lot of life left. $20 for the whole setup..... LUK makes good aftermarket stuff, and of course the dealership is always highly recommended as well in coversations of this nature. GD
henrysteele77
I see that centerforce makes two differant kits for the same price as baxter auto parts stock replace
GeneralDisorder
What are the prices? I know you can get a whole clutch kit from NAPA for a little over $100.... rebuilt of course, but I've used them and they are fine. Centerforce is good, but as I recall, they are spendy..... am I mistaken? GD
GeneralDisorder
All the centerforce listings are for 200mm clutch's.... no way I would use a 200 in anything - even a 2WD. 4WD's (including yours) are 225mm GD
henrysteele77
i am hard on my equip the luk kit at autozone is around $
GeneralDisorder
They have a listing for the EA81 225mm centerforce.... $422.95.. No listing that I can see for the EA82 225mm, but you could easily just use the EA81 setup - just have to get an EA81 flywheel, and drill the holes a little bigger to fit the EA82 crank. And transfer the timing marks over with a scribe. Personally, $100 for the LUK setup sounds spot on to me! The LUK stuff can take the punishment - no worries there. chef_tim
That sounds a little cheap, I've bought 3 and the best I paid was $175. Make sure it is a whole kit (PP, Disk, Throw-out and pilot bearings) AND make sure it is the 4wd clutch, 2wds are less money. LUK clutches rock. Later, Tim the luk kit at autozone is around $
Petersubaru
thepartsbin.com carry the "complete" clutch kit manuf. by the same company that subaru uses..excellent kit...2w dr. and 4w dr. cars don't mix unless you change the fly wheel...the 4w dr. cars have a much larger clutch surface etc. for that extra grip if needed
DrKrazy
I can't say much about the subaru Centerforce clutches, but I do have one in my truck and it's great. The only bad thing I have discovered is that the centerforce clutches seem to be WAY stiffer than any stock clutch not to mention spendy. Of course I should never have to replace the clutch in my truck again. So I guess it comes down to how much you want to spend.

baccaruda
i bought my wagon's clutch from a truck shop. brand is rhino. i paid an extra $100 to have a kevlar face put on the clutch disc. total was then $280ish. it's always done fine but I don't really hardcore my car either. GeneralDisorder
I think the last NAPA one we got was $98 for the reman kit. Made by Parute as I recall. Works fine. GD

PeterD
ClutchCityOnline.com I paied 89 bucks for and Exedy clutch kit. i used a 200mm clutch...not sure what the big problem is, though my car is completly stock...the last 200mm clutch lasted 50k miles with both of my sisters and myself learning how to drive a car with a manual tranny. not to bad. chef_tim
The problem is that your clutch should last 150K or better. The small disks just don't have what it takes to last very long. If I was changing clutches every 50K I'd go as cheap as I could too....... Later, Tim i used a 200mm clutch...not sure what the big problem is, though my car is completly stock...the last 200mm clutch lasted 50k miles with both of my sisters and myself learning how to drive a car with a manual tranny. not to bad. GeneralDisorder
He's right - they slip like crazy - even on a stock rig. Been there, done that. My Brat is at 140k - original clutch - 225mm GD

GeneralDisorder
Not that I've heard of. It's like a brake pad only harder material, and if you have the flywheel turned, it will take a little bit to wear in, but there's no reccomended procedure for it I don't think. beauregaardhooligan
You absolutely want to go easy on it for the 1st 50-100 miles. Minor surface imperfections need a little time to wear down so hot spots don't crack the lining. Same thing with brakes.
chef_tim
On the "Dial-a-clutch" website there is a graph that show the wear curve and break-in. Might be what your looking for??? Later, Tim
ekimyerac
Got mine on E-bay for about 98.00 seems to work well. The stock went about 255000 and was still, though barely, drivable. Mike, KD7GHZ
GeneralDisorder
I've never been told anything like this by new car dealers, or read anything in the manual's about it either. I think were it a huge deal, it would be mentioned in the owners manual, and the clutch instructions as well. If the flywheel is turned true, I don't think it's much of a problem. I agree that it's possible for hot spots to occur, and the flywheel to be damaged, but I have never expereinced it myself, and never heard of it occuring oustide of downright abuse of the clutch.... but that will damage it anytime, not just durring break in.
