Hondasucks
The 85 wagon I had that I sold, crapped out the other day. So I went over to his house to check it out, and I discovered that the fuel pump is not running. I had him cycle the key while I felt the fuel pump, and I couldn't feel it vibrating. I checked all the fuses and found one that was blown, so I swapped it with the power lock fuse, and the door chime started ringing, but the fuel pump still does not run. I didnt' have a voltmeter so I couldnt' check to see if the fuel pump was getting power, nor could I check the fuses properly. I've heard there is a fuel pump control unit, but I'm not sure where it is, aside from it being under the dash somewhere. Anyone know where this is, and anything else I might want to check??? thealleyboy
You really need to test for juice at the pump before going any further. You don't necessarily need a VOM. An old light bulb/socket combo with two bare wires will give you a yes/no answer. The only fuel pump relay I've heard of is a safety shut-off device, apparently on some models. Shouldn't affect normal startup though. good luck, John
Hondasucks
WEll I went out and looked at it. One of the fuses is only showing 2 volts on either side of it (Middle row of fuses, closest one to the door) Dunno what it does cuz the fuse panel door is gone... But I checked the pump and there is 12V at the connector... Gonna go back tomorrow with a known good pump and see if it's the pump, or the wiring... thealleyboy
Yep, sure sounds like the pump. You can install a "universal-type" aftermarket pump, as an alternative to a new or used OEM pump. These work great and cost much less than direct replacements. You do have to splice in your old connector, and fabricate a mounting bracket, however. good luck, John
