Caboobaroo
Ok so it started off with a problem today where I could shut the car off completley and the charge light would stay on. So I went and got gas and when I fired it up, the charge light and the brake light were both on, even after I released the parking brake. SO I do a fat burnout out of the gas station and when my back tires hit the curb, they shut off. I drive the 20 miles to Corvallis or so and the first light I get to, I go to put it in 1st and it dies. I finally get it started again and the two lights are on again. It runs for about 30 seconds, then starts to die and the same time, the charge light goes off. I finally got it to where both light shut off and I drove it to my parents house but it still kinda runs funny. WTF??? Is this car possessed??? HELP? Oh and could this be caused by a bad alternator by chance? Ever since I've had the car, the charge light has been on but it was soooooo dim like it was almost like it was getting a little bit of light from another bulb.... 75skunkaroo
you weren't listening to iron maiden were you? if so, change music types. worked for me:rolleyes: kinda sounds like the alt, mine did it for a while. got a "new" alt and it helped quite a bit, i later added a fatty wire from the alt straight to the battery. havent had any charging probs since(even with the "kc's", heater, and stereo on) -mike
aba4430
Mike, What gauge of wire did you run from the alternator to the battery. Plus was it a direct run to the battery + terminal? Please give some details. Thx, aba4430
Cougar
Some of the warning lights are in the alternator exciter circuit. This is a symptom of a failing alternator (output diodes) as was mentioned. Replacing the alternator should correct things.

Thx, aba4430 i used 8 or 10 gauge wire from a mill, nice and beefy. yeah right from the post on the alternator to the positive on the battery. this is on an externally regulated car, although, i think threeyed dit it on his before going to the gm alternator. -mike
