window rattle

Is there anything behind the interior door panel to tighten (adjust) to eliminate the rattle from the driver's door window? THANKS

BTW: switched to Moblil 1 5-30 & the "piston slap" seems to have diminished somewhat...

Unless the window is full up, it will rattle.

There is an inner and outer stabilizer that bracket the window on the front doors. Take off the inner trim panel and you will see them, to the rear of the door and just below the weatherstripping. I was able to reduce the "down window" rattle quite a bit by taking up the slack on the inner one.

Would this approach also apply to the rear windows? The rear passenger side window in my '04 Outback is slightly loose to the touch (noise at highway speed).

 

If so, is the door panel difficult to remove?

Not certain if the '04 OBW is similar to my '97 L but on the '97 there are front and rear window stabilizers, consisting of an inner and an outer stabilizer. You should be able to adjust the clearance to eliminate most of the rattle.

Tab down till you get to the "Rear Door Speaker Installation-Rear Door Panel Removal", this should give you a good idea of the steps needed to remove the panel.
