h3brewing
I just got back from driving from Montana to KC over the weekend. My wifes 02 H6 (40K miles) sedan did fine from MT until about ten miles outside of Sioux City, the temperature kept going up and down between the red and the 3/4 mark. I pulled over and checked everything out. Overflow tank was at full and I didnt see any noticeable leeks coming from the radiator or the block. We limped home and I started to investigate the cause. I got the car back up to temperature and checked to see if both fans were spinning, it looks like only the passenger side fan is going even when the car was almost in the red. I looked under the fuse panel relay to check if the fuse was blown but they were both fine for main fan and the sub fan. My question is that I also noticed that there is no relay in the sub fan 1 spot, is there supposed to be one there? Is this a common thermostat, relay, fuse problem that can easily be fixed or do I need to take it in to subaru. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tks in advance, H3
GLCraig
if the H6 is like other subarus the fan on the drivers side only turns on when the AC is running.
cookie
but there aren't that many H6 owners out there yet, and no one I know has had any trouble with overheating at all with them.

Agreed. This is the first incident I've heard of...
Setright
Up and down sounds like an indecisive thermostat. The sub will only come on along with AirCon, as mentioned above. Why it doesn't kick-in to help out in these situations is beyond comprehension. Get a new thermostat and thermostat gasket - genuine parts please - replace them are see how it goes. h3brewing
Thanks for everyone's help, I was going to jump in and try and fix it, but with time and my wife not being on my side I decided to drop it off with the subaru mechanic for his inspection. Thanks Again, H3
goodtimesbrat
Agreed. This is the first incident I've heard of... My brother has an H6 and it overheats. The dealer was unable to locate the problem. Anyone else have overheating problems with these cars? Lee
