Cryo diff stubs/cv's

Recommended Posts

I've been talking to a guy on Pirate4x4 who has a cryogenics business in Cali. His website is www.performancecryogenics.com. You can check out his rates and everything. From what I've read, this process is supposed to work quite well especially for cv's.

Anyways, I'm thinking of sending some stuff in, and wondering if some others would give it a try as well, so we can compare our results with each other. It seems like both high hp and the t-case'd 4x4 croud are having problems with rear cv cup explosions and stubs twisting off, so I think this is a fairly cheap way to get some improvement without going to the extra effort of machining or solid axle swaps, or for people who want to remain loyal to their independant rear suspension.

The guy I've been talking to (66cjdean on pirate4x4.com) has been very helpful so far.

Here's what he's had to say about the stubs:

Did I ever get back to you on this? I think I did but it sure would be nice if you had a picture or point me to Sub BBs that someone there has a pic of them. I do know that CV's are sure turning out to be a big help for the compact drag cars out there. One guy was getting about 6 runs on his until he cryoed them and after he was getting 40. Ring and pinions are also as good if not better than the CV's. I was at the sprint car races this past weekend and was talking to the crew cheif for Tony Stewerts team. He said that they just tried cryo on their sprint car and started with the ring and pinion. He said they normaly get 5 races out of a R&P and they have now put over 20 on this one with no detectable wear.

All I can say for sure about the stubs is that if we do run them through the process and they break just the same I will gladly give you your money back. I opperate on 100% customer satisfaction or as close to it as you can get. Parts like that all goes by the pound so the more you send the cheaper it is by the pound so if you have others that want to try it, it will be a little cheaper for all, and spread out the shipping, but not whole lot so that is up to you. If you would like just give me a call at 916-434-6978 and we can talk about it at length.

my high school shop teacher i used to have does cryo treating in addition to teaching now

he does alot of cranks and gun barrels

for instance a stock gun barrel that will stay accurate before cryo will last a few hundred shots bullet size how much they are loaded ect al take their own toll on the barrel

but one that has been treated will stay accurate for a thousand shots

granted those are not acurate numbers

but it was how he explained how much it helped when i was talking to him last

so if i had the money or needed it i would go for it

Ya, I know what your saying. But with everybody complaining about rear ends going boom on big tires, for only 4 bucks a pound, doesn't this make sense? Alot of people swear by cryogenic treating. It relieves internal stresses, makes the surface harder, and the inside a more perfect metal structure, increasing it's dimentional strength, toughness, and resistance to fatigue.
