Kostamojen
I thought it was a little too bright... http://community.webshots.com/photo/166896604/187862897BIpUTP So im going to go with a darker blue with metallic. bushbasher
Not everybody can pull off colours like those I'd go for it if I were you. Actually I'd 2-tone it with another wild colour. Wait, it would probably end up looking like an 80's tracksuit if you 2-toned it
Kostamojen
Ya, I kept thinking it looked like a paint job from a 80's water park or something... It was just too much. It might have been ok if it was metallic with a clear coat, but it was just like ZING its blue!
roxtar
haha, zing it's blue, hahah fun activity for today. walk up to a total stranger, and then scream MY CAR IS BLUE!!!!!!! while keeping a straight face. then turn and walk away
Rockman
Nice rebuild! I'd go with the darker metallic blue. Are you going to paint the engine compartment the same color? What was the brown color in the usual rusted areas in the engine compartment? My guess would be some sort of rust inhibitor prior to primer? I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my 79Dl wagon and rebuild the engine of course but I've got a lot of rust in the engine compt and lower body panels. wah. Kostamojen
Ya, the dark brown is some rust inhibitor paint I painted on and then sanded smooth before applying the regular sandable primer to the rest of the area. I painted it the darker blue today... Its rather metallic, but the blue is much better. Any suggestions on if I should apply some sort of clear coat after the final layer of paint to protect it? Kostamojen
Is enamel, acrylic or lacure the kind of clear top coat I should do? Ive seen all 3 in spray cans in clear form, but I dont know which is the right one...
bushbasher
The thing about clear coat is it has to be high quality or it will be destroyed by UV rays and yellow/peel after a few years in the sun. I personally wouldn't trust clearcoat in a spray can for a nice car. I'd go with a proffesional clear and have it sprayed on. The results would be worth the money I think. TheSubaruJunkie
He's right Steve. Our California sun will turn krylon into Corn Flakes in a year or two. A proffesional clearcoat will keep that paint looking great for a while. Otherwise, its looking real good. -Brian
Kostamojen
This is all just temporary really, because I cant afford any real paint work with the car and just need something done to it because of the rusty spots and such.
moosens
Way bitchin! Kind of old Subaru blue...kind of Pontiac....kind of Boss mustang.....certainly acceptable given the period of the vehicle.
bushbasher
Then I wouldnt bother clearcoating it. What kind of paint are you using right now? I agree wiht moosens I think that car can pull the color off well.
Kostamojen
Its rustoleum mettalic paint, for outdoor use. Cars, sheds, metal toys, etc. (at least thats what is pictured)
Kostamojen
Well the front of the car is painted, im working on the fenders now... The front lip/bumper is also done. Here are the pics of the color, as you can see it is a much better color than the first really bright blue. I call this more of an R2 D2 blue (Im going to use that clear coat type finish, it worked well on the bumper/lip) http://community.webshots.com/album/166896604vSrMWC/

bajavwnsoobnut
Yeah it does haul, haul enough for 5th place in truck/SUV class in last years Rallycross championship and that paintjob was done by the previous owner and was a singlestage and he botched up the last coat and made it look flat but oh well it's gettin stripped and repainted about the same color but with George Barris sized metal flake and also yellow markings in the same metal flake
Kostamojen
Whenever I finish with the paint job (which wont be anytime soon) im gonna sticker it up with a rally-type sticker job to cover up some of the lousy paint
