thegnu
Hi. I've stumbled across quite a few things about modifying Subarus to use different engines. I don't know much about this sort of thing, so I haven't really paid it my full attention. Is it possible or feasable to take any other Subaru transmission and convert it to work with a 1994 Subaru Justy, given the proper mechanical knowledge? If so, which models have a tranny that would work? There are some junkyards near here with a few Manual Subarus from that time period, and my Justy is dead in its tracks. I may be way off base, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Anyone have any experience doing something like this? If this wouldn't work, how about the whole engine/transmission? subiemech85
the problem, besides using a different justy trans, is that the engine direction is wrong
bushbasher
pretty much zero possibility of mating a justy motor with another engine, all other subaru engines are longitudinally mounted, where the justy is a transverse mounted motor. subarubrat
Maybe approach it from the other end. I did the measurements and it will work... EJ20G mated to 2wd tranny with the engine directly behind the front seats, tranny drivign rears, the Impreza front Xmember and some 1.5x1.5 tubing will make a great rear subframe. Add it all up (tires, wheels, suspension) and you are spending less than 5Gs for a car that will hand a Z06 it's rump roast in a paper bag. bushbasher
Yep, that would be one way of packing more power into your car

If so, we need to talk in PM.
subarubrat
If you have the justy (or get one dirt cheap) I would say about 5Gs (give or take for how fancy) and your there. I planned to do one, but got distracted by the BRAT kart and the XT747. Do some reading on the SHO gun, a for fiesta/festiva car with the SHO engine and tranny in the rear, this is basicly a copy of that layout. I have read about the SHO gun and how Jay Leno has one and all. Just wanted to know if you were renting out your mechanical abilities to build one. I'm no mechanic but boy do I have a ton of ideas. Truthfully, I wanted to have a Justy with an Acura Integra GSR engine in it. I don't care what peeps think about a project like that but with that engine as a starting point, the sky would be the limit for me. And the low torque of that engine would fair better with my Justy's drivetrain. I posted about this a while back in another thread.
Sweet82
Someone up in the northwest is off-roading one of those with ATV tires! Sounds like a riot to me! Take enough weight off and it's the same as a gear reduction? Get the Jumper cables out and hook them up to FrankenJusty! Do it!...and take pictures.
