newsance
Will a 1987 dual range wagon have SPFI? If it is a certain model (gl, GL-10) will it? I am looking for the elusive SPFI dual range combo. I called a buy here/pay here lot that has an 87 wagon with the dual range, but they don't know if it is carbed. MorganM
Tell them to pop the hood and LOOK! SPFI will have a big rubber snorkel coming from an airbox + MAF on the passangers side upto the throttle body. Carb will have a big metal blue air cleaner right on top. If you could get the VIN you could call a dealership and they would know.
All_talk
Carb will have a big metal blue air cleaner right on top. My '87 carbed GL wagon has a black air cleaner. :-p Gary
MorganM
My '87 carbed GL wagon has a black air cleaner. :-p Gary Time for a junkyard upgrade! Maybe it was the EA81s that had the blue air cleaners?
Snowman
I parted out an 89 that was d/r w/spfi, if that helps any. I think all 4wd non-turbos were carbed through 87.
fud24682000
My daughter and I were both on here a couple of months ago about problems with her 1987 GL, 4WD D/R with SPFI. Someone said in a reply that all the California '87's had SPFI. Ray Mac
XSNRG
Most '87's had carbs, all (pretty sure) '88 and '89's had SPFI or MPFI/Turbo.
Snowman
Yes, they discontinued the carbed ea82 after the 87 model year entirely now that I think about it. Oh yeah, gleeful little tidbit: I'm soon going to have an 86 SPFI d/r wagon. Rare yes, because they never came from the factory!
JWX
just to clear up the air box thing, EA-81s were blue and ea-82s were black
