pug wheel question

Recommended Posts

i know, i know. not another wheel question. i am going to be purchasing some pug wheels for a 90 loyale and i was checking old post and several mentioned something about the lug problems. will the lugs off of my soob not fit with the pug wheels? if i get the pug lugs will they fit the soob? also, one post said something about the 504 wheels not fitting but the wheels off a 505 would. any additional information would be helpful. i will continue to search old post for other clues. thanks in advance.

The pug 504 & 505 wheels have the same 4x140 hole pattern but the 504's use the washered lugs that have a self centering washer on them. If you don't have these washered lugs the wheels won't be centered on the hub. The 505's will work with either the 505 lugs or Subaru lugs.

That is the Steels will work with Subaru lugs, the alloy's need the pug lugs

there is a difference in the type of lug nut used between 504 and 505 there is a washer on one that mates with the wheel. and its a standard lug on the other. not sure which is which. singletrack and wasteland subaru know where you can buy sets of five lugs for pugs online for either 504 or 505. there should be no problem once you get the wheels...

there maybe other differences in the wheels too like width and the shape of the holes ovals or squares. keep searching its on here somewhere.

When I got the pug wheels put onto my BRAT, I left the pug lugs for two tires at home. I had the shop install the standard sub lug nuts on two of the holes and the pug lugs on the other two. I had problems getting the sub lugs off b/c they sat so deep in the alloy rims.

PM me if you need some pug lugs, I usually grab em when I see that at the PAP

okay....

504 - have only seen steel wheels in 14". they take the special nuts with centering washers (washers are oval shaped, and wedge into the groove between the center and the side as seen in the pic on the wheels page)

604 - these is the "limo" type Peugeot. have never seen one, but know they also used the 4 x 140mm pattern.

505 - most commonly found.

14" & 15" Steels, can use the soobie nuts without any problems.

14" Alloys, have seen these with both style of lug nuts pictured on the wheels page (steel and alloys types) the nuts have a more rounded bottom. regular soob nuts may work with these.

15" Alloys, need the type of nuts that have a wide rounded base, instead of the standard V acorn style. (see the pic on the wheels page) Some "Tuner" lug nuts can and will work.

all pug lug nuts are the same size/pitch as the soob ones 12 x 1.25

Are these less desirable because of this centering washer? Are the lug nuts and washers difficult to get your hands on??

Maybe we could add the "pug wheel" question and answer to the FAQ or another area as a pinned topic with all the answers???:brow: I know we have an article about the pug wheels but it really doesnt answer the questions that always pop-up?? Probably a dumb idea but had to say it ;)

Just FYI, you can get a Doorman lugnut and stud set from your local parts house. You just need a Sub one for reference, then you can get a longer stud that is about .03 wider in the knerl. They will need to be pressed in, I feel alot safer with that much more thread on the nuts. Later, Tim
