carfreak85
I thought that all RXs or turbos for that matter had 3.7 final drives. This seems to say otherwise and it was recently updated. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/mick/gears.htm
Dr. RX
I would say the the chart is wrong, since the RXs had LSDs and they were only available in a 3.70 ration in 85, therefore the tranny would also have to have a 3.70 ratio.
carfreak85
Thats what I thought about the RXs, but I seem to remember there being a few FT4WD 5spd XT6s with LSDs having been reported.

Neither my 88 parts book or 88 FSM list any sort of EA82T with a 3.90 Factory stock rear diff on an 88 RX is 3.70 LSD.

Yeah, has the fT4wd dual range diff lock, but i know it was replaced before, not by me. My father (re)built the engine, i'm not sure if maybe the diff came off the '87 turbo wagon (5 spd d/r- no difflock). all i know is that the car runs like a champ, sitll wish i had a bolt-on o/d gear or something, but the diff is stamped w/ 3.9. We have no other history as to the car, it was inches away from the crusher, so if a 3.9 doesn't make sense, it's probably a frankenstein part. calebz
either the rear diff has the wrong cover plate or you have one extremely unhappy center diff.. FT4WD 5 speeds didn't even come in 3.90 form... and rear end should match the trans, ir there will be issues.. I'm not exactly sure how it would feel with the FT4WD if the diff was mismatched. But you would know it immediately if you were to drive, in a straight line on dry pavement with the diff locked...you would end up with mad binding..I hope for your sake you just have the wrong cover plate on the diff or something. Nice job on saving it from the crusher though:)
