Mr. Carb
Yeah, I'm not worried about the shroud to much, but if it was around lol
Ratty2Austin
well, my argument for the whole cat thing is based on my own car (turbo XT) and the fact that I took it to the very same emissions test stand (same person testing too) back in august... and.. my XT has NO cats or anything but an ugly muffler can... (completely gutted exhaust.. i know, i checked each section of pipe visually and with a coat hangar!) and it passed fine... the fact that I have no vacume leaks, and a clean throttle body and good gas.. and new plugs/wires/airfilter/etc.... might have been the key... and a cooling system with an OEM therm in it... (and not overheating at a stop/hillclimb in 100deg heat/etc..) ok ok ok.. sorry, i am done bragging.. but about the cat thing, i dont think it is completely nessacary... in fact, unless everything else is good.. having one still might not help...? thats just my idea though... i could dig up a emissions results for ya carl (from the XT) if you want to see it.. (they did not run the dyno on it either)
Mr. Carb
yeah, thats the real issue, they ran it on a dyno, with the auto, so it predotonated like mad, wich is the cause of the co and hydrocarbons... the other cause of co is probably a bad o2 sensor... So I'm thinking we retard the timing a little so that predotonating issue is solved temporary. And see how it runs, if it's belching black or still stinks, we can try swapping o2 sensors. But I'm pretty sure it was the loaded predotonation it was having. Cause it was driving a load of vehicle weight, at 25mph with the auto tranny of course driving it in 3rd gear. MorganM
If you still need a clutch fan just PM me. I have an EA82 SPFI one laying here I havent used in years so it's yours if you need it! In addition to all the other things mentioned get them combustion chambers cleaned OUT! Also ensure all your EGR junk is working. Most times the EGR selinoid goes out. Don't forget your PCV system also. What if you re-routed all PCV hoses to breather filters? Then you wouldnt be sending nasty junk down your intake! O2 sensor is pretty important here also; just replace it. I'd do everything BUT the cat and go try again. Then if you fail put a cat on. Also take it to a different station. I wouldnt let the same morons who overheated it and pinged it TOUCH my car again! ps: replace radiator with new one !_!
