mtsmiths
Had to run into the house as I left this am. Sure makes starting out again easy, especially in snow (not yet). Wonder why all cars don't have it, or why more folks don't even know about it? You'd think Subaru would be the most popular car in SF.
DerFahrer
On a slight incline it's not that big of a deal, but on a steep one, yes it REALLY comes in handy. It's never really necessary, but I don't particularly like to pull away from a stop at 3k rpms because I'm scared of careening into the guy behind me :-p It's not such a fantastic device when it springs a leak and leaves you with no brakes however. I speak from experience on that
mtsmiths
Since 1982 we have owned five Subarus and have a cumulative 275,000 (+-) miles under our wheels. Three MT, two AT, never ever had one fail yet. Just lucky, I guess.
DerFahrer
My Legacy's HH is still original and untouched at 137k, but for some reason, my XT's HH sprung a leak around 104k :-\
cookie
Forester had one. Last night I was on a couple of steep hills coming back from a party and the hill holder would have been great. My brother in law has one on his Legacy in Kiwi and it works very well.
canajun2eh
I agree, the Hill Holder is nice to have. However, if you don't have one (e.g., the "Brighton" model), you can always use the hand brake.
Tiny Clark
Ditto Gerry, that was what I was going to chime in with....
Dazed Dreamer
when I first started driving I used the Hand brake to start off on hills specially the one on 52nd and sheridan (for those familiar with colorado) I was always afraid to hit that one red
paladin_w
All this hill holder talk, got me so nastalgic for my 92 legacy, my 97 outback doesn't have HH on it, and I miss it soooooo much. Have had to do the hand brake routine several occations.
