Diff hanger bar reinforcment?

Recommended Posts

I need to beef up my diff hanger. Here is what I had in mind....

I was thinking on welding a 1.5" by an eighth flat bar along the bottom, following the contour of the existing diff hanger. A cross section of the bar would look like an upside down "T". I figured this would give me the strength of angle iron times two and the strength of curved steel together?

Looking for feedback before I do it.

Any thoughts? Ideas? insults?

Hey Bud....

1" Will work.....Or better yet I take 1" x 1" x 1/8 Angle Iron and With a Cut saw cut it so it semi contours the hanger bar.....Then weld in Place.....May need Vise Clamps to keep it tight in places....???

Any more than 1" may interfere with other things under there....? I haven't Looked at a Foresters Bar Close yet, but Assume its Similar to Old scool.....:)

Also , When is a Good time to catch you home this weeekend to call you....???

I got some cool stuff to Chat with you about.....

Talk Soon, John

Ehh John, I think he's talking about the diff hanger under his buggy..... Yeah I would have to agree with him though. Just cut a piece of steel thats the same contour as the originaly, weld it in place, then add anything you think might be nessessary:D

Mudrat,

I'll give you a call before I leave "work", it's cheaper that way :brow:

I'm going to go to the cabin this weekend so I may not be around much, cell only works a little up there?

I was talking about reinforcing "Summer". I figure I need to do something to the diff bar before I put the other rear axle in for good! Took it out the other day with 3WD and it was a scream!
