I don't know what to do with this car....

Recommended Posts

Okay...I recently bought a 98 outback from Boston(I have already posted about it while ago)...I only added 900 miles to the car and 700 miles comes from me driving from Massachusetts to Michigan(just broke 100k)..Look what I have....blown head gasket and maybe more(hopefully not though) Currently the car is at a subaru dealership getting it repaired.....I know outbacks infamous for blowing hg, but I would have never thought it would do that to me...The fact that I just bought this car and with all the problems/time/money I wasted on this car, I could have downpayment done for "new" car...I know Massachusetts have certain law to protect the consumers but I found out that it won't apply to my situation because the deal was "made" over the phone instead of me physically coming into a dealership and making a deal. I don't know how to preceed this manner. The dealer said "We specialize in obtaining RELIABLE vehicles" They have told me they checked everything to make sure this car is reliable for long distance travel...I only drove for 900 miles..and it died on me. There has to be somekind of sign of leaking before it blew and they should have found that when their mechanic checked "Everything" I really don't know what to do...I mean I feel like I just bought a lemon and now I have spend over $1k to fix the problem ...Since the deal was made over the phone, MA won't protect me against the dealer...What can I do? I really want the dealer to reimburse all the money that will go into fix the damn thing...Someone please help me.

Thanks

Dan

Any other signs of a HG failure, oil in the overflow tank. If that was showing, I'd say a Subaru Dealer should have caught it, but other may not.

Some HG failures are only seen when pushing the car, heavy loads-engine operating for some time. They may not have seen it.

If you paid with a credit card stop the payment and work out a deal.

BBW still applies.

Did you get a dealer title, or was the previous owner on the title, if so try to contact them and see if they knew the HG was gone! Good Luck

Sadly, all the payment has been made. And the vehicle is bought from a dealer. Only thing I can tackle the dealer at the small court is that Massachusetts doesn't allow "as-is" vehicle but the dealer sold the car to us "as-is" (of course I found out this after I bought it) But weird thing is that that law wouldn't apply to me (well I'm trying to figure out why) All the Mass consumer protection told me was that I made the deal over the phone....but I don't see why that makes a such deal when the vehicle was physically bought from the state.

What a dealership that did not tell the truth. What is next you will find out that this was not owned by a little old lady? Did you get the vehicle inspected by an independent shop before you bought it?

Do you really think a shop that is selling a vehicle will give you a through inspection of a vehicle they are selling? This is one of life’s lessons. How do you know a car sales person/dealership is lying?

Their lips are moving.

I am sorry that you had to learn this way. When you buy a vehicle that is as is used from a dealer after you sing the paper work it could implode and there is little or nothing you can do about it.

I have had many vehicle come into my shop for pre-purchase inspections from the dealership and I have found major problems with them. I recommend a pre-purchase inspection on any used car people buy.

Second I know that many people trade their Subarus in with bad HG, because they don't want to pay to have them fixed. They think it is a victimless crime. I discourage my customer from doing that, because I know many dealers won't catch it, and if they do, they wholesale it and it winds up on another lot. But a lot of times people are backwards in the vehicle and the only choice they have is to trade it in, or fix a car they already owe too much on.
