When they switched to the axles without roll pins, that's the R180 diff. My 96 Impreza doesn't have roll pins in the axles. If you look at the VLSD, you'll see that it has stub axles that are held in with a 'C' clip, just like that later axles, not a bolt like the EA series cars.
