...for an EJ25 conversion.

EJ57 short block (USDM STi engine)

Cobb spicey cams

11:1 static compression (accomplished thru STi headgasket, new pistons/rods and headwork)

1998 spec RS DOHC heads

2000+ engine management system+aftermarket ECU (meaning MAP no MAF!)

9 lb flywheel and 'semi-race' clutch (have not picked a brand yet)

Balanced and 'knife edged' crank (a Paeco thing)

STi Group N engine/trans mounts (the XT6 tranny mount for the RX D/R box allows use of the EJ series tranny mounts)

And for the RX box...

RA gear set

WRX Viscous coupling center diff

Phantom grip front diff (25% weaker than stock rear LSD specs)

Rebuilt rear LSD, 25% stronger than stock specs

:slobber:

NOT! :-p

But that is whats in the works.... :)

Seriously, its time to play with fuel amount delivery with my engine. I believe the reason for its high RPM power issues and high boost/RPM lack of balls is the lack of FUEL up there....mainly because I have messed with the spring tension on the air flow meter...letting it lean out of high....ofcourse, the 3 MAF cars i had never did this because there was no way to mess it up!

So...im gonna go make the spring tension less...thereby making the ECU dump a little more fuel....my RX in STOCK form (well, gutted cats and cherry bomb on stock diameter exh) will pull strong to 6500. The wagon with all its high flow stuff only gets to 6k before 'running out of breath'....its not supposed to do that. TWE header/DP, large TB with spyder manifold and a custom intake with WRX TMIC and the same cams as the 87+ turbo cars.

Hm...must be fuel starving after all.

Oh...and why would I want an NA built EJ25? Because you put your foot down and there is instant power. Thats what makes Shane/Warp3's RS so fast on an autox course...the Cobb cams/exhaust puts the engine at 200 hp and a little over 200 TQ...insta power. Rockets out of the corners at any RPMs.

Turbo=Lag no matter what. Fully built EJ25=240 hp instantly.

I'll believe that when I see it, I've had both types of trannies apart, they are not that similar.

Im not going to start another argument.....it'll end up like the dispute over the EJ22E...which Ive still yet to pull heads and take pics.

IIRC, this guy used to frequent the board...and that RX has the gearset in it.

Ehhh...subarurx was his user name...just searched the car. a WRX RA box...the whole thing...

than i wonder what crazy OZ guy...or maybe it was TWE that said the gear sets are interchangable on the 5 spds....

I wonder about the article, first it states that the car is an 84 RX, well it might have been built in 84, but it is an 85 model. Next he stated that they didn't adjust a valve correctly and it hit a piston. Since these are clearance engines, the valve will not hit the piston, even if it is stuck at max open. Of course they didn't mention what type of new pistons that they installed, but the must have been high dome pistons because stock pistons wouldn't have had that problem. I also didn't see anything about a RA gear set installed in a RX tranny. One thing you've got to remember, they get diffrerent stuff then we do, they got the D/R Imprezas and maybe a RA gear set would work in that tranny. I would be more then happy if you can prove me wrong.

I think only we got the leones in 85, everybody else got them in 84. I've seen a number on foreign ebays that were the leone body style but had 84 as the model year
Actually I think we got the EA82s the same time as the rest of the world. I think the delay in models years started with the Legacy.

We got the XT before the rest of the world!

It has been stated....

Looking for $6,000NZD and is located in Auckland, New Zealand.

Car is ready to rally, just needs oil and filter change.

See images of it at www.redhillsbenz.co.nz or do a search under my forum name, and there are pics of the engine bay.

Here are some more specs on the car:

internal:

- kevlar autosport seats

- momo wheel

- brantz tripmeter

- 6 point cage with side intrusion bars

- terraphone intercom

- oil/water/turbo gauges

- foot plates

- co-driver footrest

- fire extinguisher

under the hood:

- forged pistons and some special rings (forget there name)

- new bearings / rod bolts / all engine seals gaskets: three events old from complete rebuild over last off-season

- legacy radiator

- front mount intercooler

- 14psi boost on std turbo

- adjustable boost (at turbo, not in car)

- dump valve

- strut brace

drivetrain:

- centre bonded clutch (forget the exact details but new at the begining of last season)

- wrx ra gear box with custom mounts - just had a complete refresh by Garry Capper Performance incl new case , bearings, crown wheel & pinion, centre viscous, 1st gear, 5th gear, main shaft

- shortened drive shaft

- 12kg centre viscius diff

- 4.11 ratio front/rear diffs

suspension:

- front: custom 50mm height adj bilsteins / adjustable bottom arms / legacy brakes / heavier anti roll bar

- rear: koni height adj shocks

misc:

- large sump guard

- total stripped out shell

- all door panels replaces with light polycarb sheeting

- all sound deadening has been taken out

- tank guards

- full underbody protection + hell flaps over the rear suspension to stop damage

rims (I think the numbers are right, they are from memory):

5 x 13" standard steel rims

15 x 13" alloys - http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/wagalloy.jpg

8 x 14" standard steel rims

4 x 14" aftermarket alloys - http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/new-alloy.jpg

4 x 14" Enkei WRC alloys - http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/enkei_wrc_spirits_14_alloy.jpg

tyres:

- 6 x 185/60/14" Bridgestone Tarmac rally

- 8 x 185/60/14 Silverstone Gravel Tyres

- approx 8-9 175/70/13 Bridgestone gravel tyres (most are half worn)

parts:

- standard gearbox

- standard radiator x 2

- misc engine parts (boxes of bits, plus two blocks)

- doors / bonnet / guards

- brakes / suspension parts

- axles

- plus a lot more I can't even think about

Its got the complete gearbox...

And im sure an RA gearset will work in ANY EJ trans...as many RS guys have done...and ofcourse many WRX people...so im sure they will fit into the Legacy/Forester D/R boxes...never seen an impreza with D/R...but its entirely possible knowing subaru and their wagons...

And with the piston valve contact...ive seen a stock one go all to h3ll when a valve stuck max open and the piston came up...i know they are not interferance...but how did that one happen?

Also...that RX had higher lift cams and a different set of pistons...that ='s less clearance valve-piston...so...boom when not time'd right....

Well, I actually broke a valve in an EA82T, what happened was that the hydraulic valve lash collapsed, the cam follower moved slightly cause the valve spring to be compressed and not the valve, this cause the keepers to fall out and the valve just fell into the piston. Fortunately, the valve head snapped off and wedged itself back into the intake port where it used to function. I was about a 100 yards from my house and going down hill, so I coasted the rest of the way home. I have a new valve seat installed, used a valve from a spare head, and I was back in business.

A side note on the model year thing, I once owned an 81 BMW 735i, but because it was a grey market car, it was titled as an 80 since that law stated that the date of manufacture was used in that case, and since it was built 10/80, it was considered an 1980 BMW 735i. This could be that same case with this car, only under Australian import laws.
