Tycho
How does the strength of the 4sp DR in say...an 82 wagon compare to the 5sp DR in later (85+) GL cars...or the 5sp single range in Legacy's/EJ cars (yes I know about the different bolt pattern). Can a Legacy transmission be fitted to an 82 wagon (rear drive shaft/front axles)? Thanks
Tycho
Apparently an area of ongoing research?
WJM
the pre85 trans I have no clue about strength....but I hear they are strong. the 85-94 EA82 tranns seem to be REALLY strong and ive never heard of one breaking due to power...just stupidity. Ive had several full time 4WD tranies, and abused them quite thoroughly...and they never broke or anything. The early EJxx trans are pretty tuff too....but...you get past 1998...and they just dont make them like they used to...unless you get an STi trans, or an RA gear set...or the USDM 6 spd thats pretty much bullet proof.
