babywagon
Gentlemen- I just found out that my cam & crank seals ar gone. I will be replacing them this coming week + the T-Belt. HOWEVER, I was about to change the water & oil pump plus the tensioner once I'm in there but after talking to the stealership I wonder if I can do without the water , oil pump & tensioner change. They quoted me: T-Belt - $59.95 Cam Seal - $16.85 Crank Seal - $12.85 Water Pump - $88.95 Oil Pump - 129.95 (o-ring = $1.90) Tensioner - $129.95 Does that seem too pricey to anyone else out there? Anyway, back to my question, Can I due without the water , oil pump & tensioner? Granted, Of course, they be in good condition. Please advise. cookie
If it is a non interference 2.2 you can get by with a lot more than an interference engine. If that is what it is I would only change the tensioner if bad and the water pump if I could afford it, or it showed signs of looseness or leaking. The oil pump you only need to locktite the screws on it and buy the sealing O ring. An oil pump itself will usually last till a rebuild. I have a late 2.5 interference engine myself so I changed the water pump and tensioner so as not to need to go in for a long time. I also don't want cute little bent valves if a water pump or tensioner took out the timing belt. At the worst all the seals and the belt.
coloradosubarules
Take the car to the dealer to have the seals done then tow it home and do the rest yourself. With help from the board you can do it and save. I did.

coloradosubarules
Drop Legacy777 (josh) a line and ask him for the links. With his help I was able to do my own timing belt and oil pump.

tcspeer
You can get better prices from Lithia Subaru in Oregon. Their number is 1-866-717-2512 pay with credit card and you will have you parts in two to three days with priority mail. They are really good to the rural mail carriers that drive Subaru right hand drives. Other people here can tell you some other places that are good to get parts.
