Ross
am running the ea81t on 91 octane (RON) gas. seems to be knocking going up hills, just thought i'd check to see what fuel others use before checking timing/plugs etc. as far as i know, the engine is stock standard. carfreak85
Subaru says in the owner's manual to use 91 or higher, so thats what I use even though I'm tempted to use 87 when I don't have a lot of cash in my pocket. Better safe than sorry!

Turbone
My old EA81T ran fine on regular, I think thats 89? Make sure you have the timing set accurately. Might check the gap on the sparkplugs also.
BobBrumby
i duno if its "RON" but it says 98 octain on the bp super dooper permuim in aus. yeh i duno what units octain is measured in, but for y'all love of imperial measurements over there and it being metric here, maybe this screwed the comparison. My owners manual says to use 90 RON. In my area gasoline is rated as (RON+MON)/2 I think 90 RON is equivilent to about 87-88 (R+M)/2 for most gasolines. My ea-81t pings on 87 R+M/2,isn`t bad on 89,is better on 91 and I haven`t tried enough 94 to be sure. I use 89 mostly.
