Ah, the car that started my obsession

Recommended Posts

My wife was looking thru a box of about 1000 pics and came across a couple of my first Soob.

Got it in 92 or 93 from a local dealership (Ford & Mazda). Kept it for 3yrs until I needed a truck for work. The only problem I ever had with it was a stripped out hub spline. And 2 speeding tickets

My first Soob was a 1987 GL-10 Turbo wagon. Bought it in 94 and I kept it until it was stolen in 98. It had 197k on it. I just rebuilt the tranny 3 week before it was stolen! :banghead: It was a great car and it did start my Subaru obsession.

This is my one and only picture of it taken with a Polaroid camera. Sorry for the horrible quality.

Here is my first "baby", a 1983 GL, 4sp D/R. Ready for the lift, lasted only another couple weeks after this pic was taken. Being a young unexperienced kid and rolled her, twice. Not gonna forget her though, learned a lot with this one. Thats my loving father in the pic BTW. :)

My first one was an '85 Hatch (2WD Standard model) which I bought for the sole purpose of saving on gas for a 60 mile roundtrip commute to work. It came to Washington state with my father-in-law who drove it out from Delaware for us after we moved here in 1988. We sold it shortly thereafter since we didn't need it at the time. I didn't get the bug until my middle son bought an '82 Brat as his first car. After driving it in the snow with bald tires I was hooked and soon replaced my Mazda pickup with an '86 GL wagon (which flowmasteredGL has right now). Since then I've learned to do more repairs/service for myself other than just changing the oil and filter. Currently, the '82 Brat was bought by my oldest son and is his rallycross car. I've replaced the '86 GL with a '91 Legacy wagon and added an '84 Brat as my play car. I will likely be driving a Subaru until they "pry the key out of my cold dead hand."

here's some pics of my first Subaru http://usmb.net/gallery/albup46 It is a 1983 2wd GL hatchback, 5-speed, EA81 w/ Carter-Weber carb and an aftermarket sunroof. I got this from Andrew and the pics are ones he took of it when he went to go get it from my buddies cowfield. It lived in that spot for about 8 years until Andrew got ahold of it. I helped him do the work on it and then I ended up cleaning it up and it didn't look too bad besides the major rust it had inside and out from the leaking sunroof. I traded it away for my '79 4wd wagon which I still had and thats when I became hooked on Subarus (more specifically gen 1's!). I Still have the wagon and I traded a '88 Justy for my '78 Brat and now I own an '89 RX which I bought for 150 bucks. Currently in Wyoming, I have my Brat and my RX but my wagon is awaiting me back in Oregon so I can start on the EA81TT project for it:D

As far as ownership goes, my 87 GL which I have had for like 7 years and 89,000 miles or so has been what I offically starting my obsession.

What really got my started is my brother's high school friend first had a 90 Legacy L with some sweet rims (hey I was like 12 at the time, I thought the rims made the car cool  )

He later upgraded to a sweet 92? Purple with gold trim SVX... I still want that car :)

That led to my mom buying a 96 OBS which I learned to drive on. I then bought my 87 GL November of Junior year of High School.

First sube I ever wanted was an EA82T wagon with the pushbutton 4WD. Then My friend got this car (The green wagon):

Then I discovered this message board and became obsessed with EA81s and found my turbo wagon (The red one) at a towing auction. The rest is history!

My first was a brown 81 GLF, we call it the turd. I loved that car more than anything when I had it. My dad bought it in 1991 it had around 60k on it and the lady that had it thought it needed a clutch. My dad got it for $250 put a clutch cable in in and I had a new best friend.

That car was the start of something great. I cried the day that a lady in a 1993 white Toyota Camry hit me and total the Turd. I still have the grille to this day.

since then we have had tons of Subarus, My dad would buy them cheap and fix um up and sell them.

My dad now has two SVXs, an Impreza wagon, and a few others, I have a 2000 2.5rs, my sisters both have Subarus.

I miss the Turd
