maltajusty
I am from the island of Malta and have a 1992 Subaru Justy with 998cc engine. I have done lot's of work on it and still a lot to be done. Here is the history of my car. My father bought me the car in 1992 and it was pretty standard. From then I have done lots of mods. The first being the lower trunk spoiler. The wheels have gone from the standard 12" to 13" then 14" and currently I have 195x45x15 and I beleive it's the only car on the island with such wheels. Yesterday I have finished the lowering of the car where with the help of a friend managed to lower it some 3cm. With this lowring and the wheels I had to fit harder bump stops at the back to prevent the rear wheel from touching the rear inner arc. Also I have altered the exhaust of the car where I had removed everything. From just after the exhaust manifold I have installed a straight through system made up of 2" stainless steel pipe with straight back box. I have fitted a K&N filter to the engine. On the interior, I have Sparco Torino seats with Sparco 3 point harness, Racing Dynamics Steering Wheel. I have fitteda set of dials just under the radio. Ice wise I have a Kenwood system consisting of a Kenwood unit + 2 amplifiers, one 180x2 feeding a set of 6x9 280W speakers and one 450x1 feeting a 10" 600W subwoofer. Also have a 90W speekers at the front. Everything is controlled via an Equilizer. Also present is a 6 disc CD Changer. Future Mods include fitting a front and rear braces and a break upgrade. Matty B
Malta is a little island in the Mediterranean Sea between North Africa and Italy. I was there in 1997 and again in 2002, It used to be a British Colony and has the wildest collection of old English cars and grey performance imports from Europe. Both left and right hand drives, All screaming around a very small island on neck tie thin roads! I loved it! People tend to keep the old cars on the road by actually fixing them or swapping a newer drivetrain in, its inspiring to see a 1955 Morris Minor with a new direct injection Renault diesel in it (7000% torque upgrade). Very friendly people, perfect weather and I highly reccommend going there. Matt
maltajusty
First of all thanks for the complements. Matty B was right in the description of Malta. Actualy the Maltese Islands consist of 5 islands but in only 2 live people i.e. Malta approx 400,000 and Gozo 25,000. The other 3 are very small islands and no one live there. I agree with Matty B that we have a good number of old cars. The Escort Mk1 is nice to see, mini's etc. People usually gather at Hal-Far drag strip every Saturday afternoon and Sunday mornings. However, lately people are buying Japan imported cars like Toyota GT, Toyota Glanza, Honda's etc. Myxalplyx I will consider doing something similar. Matty B
Welcome to the board Ray, there are a good bunch of guys here and you can learn a lot from them. Your model Justy looks unique to Europe to me, I havn't seen one in Oz and we get most Subaru Models, whats the engine specs? Lots of Maltese people in Tasmania, I got a great welcome when people found out. We arrived the day of the Monaco Grand Prix, could not work out where everyone was... streets were dead, everything closed. We had to actually ask a family when walking around, they invited us in to watch it and we ended up having a blast of a time I loved Valletta, I was engineering on a yacht and we sailed into the harbour after coming through the Suez Canal. Amazing Harbour. You are right about the Minis, I love them and spotted a few old coopers. My advice for your Car is go the braces and sway bar the front and back, Do what ever you have to do to dial in some negative camber in the front end. (I love the bendy roads) Upgrade your brakes Then deal with the airflow in and out of your engine. Give it more fuel when it asks! Cheers, Matt
bajavwnsoobnut
cool lookin justy you could also look into puting the 1.2 liter motor in with FI and go with megasquirt for the FI controller
maltajusty
Thanks once again for the complements. I never expected such a thing as here in Malta these tiny cars are usually owned by ladies or by old people and so they are underestimated. Infact in Malta there are many like mine i.e 998cc engine OHC 6 valve carbed 2WD. There are only a few 1198cc engine and to my knowledge only 1 1189cc with fuel injection was imported. With regards to the engine specs here they are: 998cc Engine: 6 valve OHC which produces 40kW (55PS) at 6000rpm and 8.1kg-m of torque at 3600rpm 1198cc Engine: 9 valve OHC which produces 50kW (68PS) at 5600rpm and 9.9kg-m of torque at 3600rpm Both have McPherson strut type suspension front and rear with coil springs front and rear. Also they both have vented front disk brakes with leading and trailing drums at the back. Ray
Mikldom
My compliments to you sir. I have an old 88 (two to be exact, one is for an engine transplant). I am partial to the 4wd, and possible rally aspect of mine. I usually don't care for what us stateside called "riceing", but yours is done tastfully, and is very attractive. Keep us updated.
