86 gl 3-door= light truck

Recommended Posts

according to the emmisions sticker under the hood.

So, does this make that gl a SUV? My 92 loyale is listed as a motor vehicle on its emmision sticker, and the only difference is the EFI. Did subaru use the light truck loophole to get the more polluting carbed engines through? how long was this doge used for? Is it a light truck because its 4wd? seems pretty much like a car to me. doesn't even have a seperate frame.

If the door jamb emblem says MPV on it then alot of states will designate that as a truck.

which means in NC i can have 5% tint all the way around! I wonder if the RX says that....since it is listed as a "4WD Runnabout"

Hi guys!

I believe that the "truck" rating has nothing to due with carbs, efi, or anything else. I think it is all about ride height. I had an '81 AMC Eagle SX-4 that was classed as a "truck" due to the clearance it had under it. And from what I've read, this is true for the newer Suby's as well. The manufacturers and worried because the new CAFE ratings are based on emmissions only, not what kind of vehicle it is. I might be wrong tho. :-\

BTW, that SX-4 was a hoot in the mud!

Cheers!

No, you all are nuts. Subaru used a importing loop hole as far as number of vehicles imported. They could register cars as trucks and import more of everything. Talk to a guy at an emissions stand about early Subarus passing emissions, they all will mention having to look up vins, making sure its not regestered as a truck as they can have lower standards for some reason.

I donno
