oregonloyale
As most of you know I have been dealing with noisy friggin valves. I have changed the oil and added 20w50 oil and MMO . I have driven on I-5 @ 70mphs for 20minutes . I have chnaged the check valve spring in under the cam cover. AND NOTHING HAS WORKED!!!!!!!!! My oil pressure is goo and have no leaks. Before I changed the check valve spring the noise would come and go , now it just stays. I'm at my wits end , I think I have a lemon. Help Me , dont let me give up on this Sube! :boohoo:
Flowmastered87GL
I agree with the oil pump thing.. the oil pump pumps volume... but sucks air when the gaskets get old... therefore the oil foams and lifters tap..... that is the simple solution as that is something you can do in the front of the engine (with the cam seals, FRONT crank seal, possibly water pump, and oil pump, and timing belts of course...) Failing that.... clean and resoak the lifters...
GLCraig
yeah, lifter noise is pretty common with the EA82 and resealing the oil pump often cures the problem.
Flowmastered87GL
the interesting thing is... my 88 (see signature) makes NO noise at all... even with 207K... my 87 makes it every day on startup for like 10 seconds.... Ya I know I should keep the 88, but the 87 is my baby, so oh well, some subaru nut will get a cherry SPFI wagon.
